How the dividend calculator works

This free dividend calculator works in four modes. The portfolio projection estimates how your dividend income grows over time as you reinvest and keep contributing. The dividend yield mode turns a share price and its annual dividend into a yield, gross and after tax. The single-stock mode works out one holding's payout per year, per payment and per month. And the income-goal mode tells you the portfolio size you would need to reach a target monthly income.

Unlike most calculators, every figure is shown after tax. Set your dividend tax rate once and the results reflect what you would actually keep, not the gross headline number. There is no bank or brokerage linking, so you enter only the assumptions you choose; nothing is connected to your accounts or stored.

What you can calculate

Switch modes at the top of the tool. Whichever you pick, every result is shown after tax, the income that actually reaches your account.

Dividend reinvestment (DRIP) calculator

The portfolio projection compounds your dividends and yearly contributions, so you can watch reinvesting (DRIP) plus an annual dividend increase grow your income over 10, 20 or 30 years.

Dividend yield calculator

Enter a share price and its annual dividend to get the dividend yield instantly, annual dividend per share ÷ price per share, alongside the after-tax yield you would really earn.

Monthly dividend income calculator

Every projection breaks income down to an average monthly figure, so you can plan around real monthly dividend income instead of a single year-end number.

Dividend tax calculator

Set your dividend tax rate once and every result, covering yield, single-stock payout and long-term projection, is shown net of withholding tax. This after-tax view is what sets OnlyDividends apart from other dividend calculators.

Frequently asked questions

Is the dividend calculator free?
Yes. It is completely free to use, with no sign-up or account required.
Does it account for dividend growth and reinvestment?
Yes. You can set an annual dividend increase and an expected portfolio return, and the projection compounds both over the time period you choose.
Are the results before or after tax?
After tax. Enter your dividend tax rate and the calculator shows net income, the amount that actually reaches your account.
How do you calculate dividend yield?
Dividend yield = annual dividends per share ÷ current share price, shown as a percentage. A stock paying $2.00 a year at a $50 share price yields 4%. Use the dividend yield mode above to calculate it instantly, including your after-tax yield.
How are dividends calculated?
A company declares a dividend per share, and your payment is that amount multiplied by the shares you own. For example, 100 shares paying a $0.50 quarterly dividend is $50 per quarter, or $200 a year. The single-stock mode works this out for any holding.
How do you calculate the dividend payout ratio?
The dividend payout ratio = dividends per share ÷ earnings per share (or total dividends ÷ net income), shown as a percentage. A 40% payout ratio means a company returns 40% of its earnings to shareholders and reinvests the rest; lower ratios generally leave more room for future increases.
How much do I need to invest to reach a monthly dividend income?
Divide your target annual income by your expected yield. To earn $1,000 a month ($12,000 a year) at a 4% yield you would need a $300,000 portfolio. The income-goal mode does this for you and grosses the figure up for tax.
Does the calculator link to my bank or store my data?
No. There is no sign-up, no bank or brokerage connection, and nothing is saved. You enter only the assumptions you choose, and every figure is calculated in your browser.
