About CSX Corporation

CSX Corporation is an American holding company and major freight transportation provider headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida. The company's primary operating subsidiary, CSX Transportation, operates approximately 21,000 route miles of railroad track across the eastern United States and Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec, serving 26 states, the District of Columbia, and Canada. As one of six surviving Class I railroads in North America, CSX transports diverse freight commodities including intermodal containers, coal, agricultural products, chemicals, metals, and industrial materials. The company operates two geographic regions—East and West—each with specialized sub-regions managing distinct corridors and markets. CSX provides rail-based freight transportation services to shippers across multiple industries and maintains access to over 70 ocean, river, and lake port terminals along the Atlantic and Gulf Coasts, the Mississippi River, the Great Lakes, and the St. Lawrence Seaway. Beyond rail operations, CSX engages in real estate development and monetization. The company was established in 1980 through the merger of Chessie System and Seaboard Coast Line Industries.
