About SalMar ASA

SalMar ASA is a Norwegian aquaculture company and one of the world's largest producers of farmed Atlantic salmon. Founded in 1991 in Frøya Municipality, it has evolved into a vertically integrated enterprise encompassing broodfish and smolt production, marine-phase farming, harvesting, processing, and global sales of salmon. The company holds extensive licenses for salmon production in Norway, including 170,240 tonnes of maximum allowable biomass across various regions like Trøndelag, Nordmøre, and Troms, supplemented by operations in Iceland through a 52.5% stake in Icelandic Salmon and a 50% ownership in Scottish Sea Farms, the UK's second-largest salmon producer. SalMar pioneered offshore aquaculture with innovative projects like Ocean Farm 1, a semi-submersible structure producing up to 6,000 tonnes annually, and developments such as Arctic Offshore Farming and the Smart Fish Farm for open-ocean operations. It supplies premium salmon to over 50 countries, including Asia, North America, Europe, and Russia, emphasizing fish welfare, environmental sustainability, and local processing at facilities like InnovaMar and InnovaNor. With a 2024 harvest volume exceeding 250,000 tonnes gutted weight, SalMar drives industry advancement through R&D and cost-efficient production.
